New Poet?

Doggerel Dave

There’s a different poet up on the board;

New? They have a hundred more in their hoard.

I’ve never noticed them before you see:

Why guilty? They’ve never bothered with me.

This is NOT a plea for more people to read and comment on MY poetry but IS an argument for more interaction between all contributors here.

It does happen Dave, when I first started on this sight it was the done thing to welcome new users onto the sight.

    Andy

    • Doggerel Dave

Yes absolutely Andy - but the plea here is for poets to interact with others if they wish to see their poetry read.

Here here Dave I am behind you all the way on this one. I have been remiss at times acknowledging their new standing but try to respond to their posts. All could do a little more in this regard. Very nicely stated Dave

Go away, Soren - absolutely no effort required of you on this issue: you should be (no, are) out there constantly and then some, putting this into practice.👍

The interchange isn’t always equitable but there we go. I do understand the point and it often comes back to bother me. People are people 🕊️🙏🏻

        • Doggerel Dave

I see folks I would call interesting only get three views and the indefatigable Soren's comment to which they don't respond. I can only guess that if a poet (and here I'm not talking about the one a day regulars) pins a piece up there, they would like it read. My argument is, to put it bluntly, they have to learn to play the game....

          • arqios

And that there is the divide. Is it arrogance? Apathy? Inability to read a room? Boycott? Passive aggressiveness? I don’t know either.

            • Doggerel Dave

I can't for the life of me divine what gives here. I only have this very deep feeling that better poets than me pin their stuff up then toddle off into obscurity without hardly a reading. This is a big busy site; too easy to get buried without any rites hardly at all.

              • arqios

Oh yeah, Allpoetry is another biggie and still a similar dilemma. I’m just happy there are some that have chosen to tolerate my spouting🕊️🙏🏻

                  Get away wi' yer..

My friend, this is a clean, honest call back to community…not demanding attention, but inviting presence. You name the gap without accusing, and that makes the message land stronger. It is a nudge in the right direction. Couldn't agree more. Presence and engagement...community...are what make poetry sites tick. Support and be supported. It's a win/win. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Nothing to respond to there, Tristan. You've enlarged upon my quick remark nicely. Many thanks.

Have I missed summat or someone perchance? .. am asking for a friend you understand, but I do kinda get your drift .. Neville

                    • Doggerel Dave

Nah - nothing to miss, nothing to perchance; the sale doesn't start 'till next week Neville. You are a little early; I do hope that doesn't unduly inconvenience.

We must have interaction if we wish to be interacted with. Nobody likes talking to a wall. Nicely said Dave.

                      • Doggerel Dave

Got that right, Allie.. And anyway, a one way conversation could be a sign of...

                        • Allie561

Sign of? (Is this the way to continuing a conversation lol)

                          • Doggerel Dave

...could be a sign of hearing internal voices - no need for external stimulation at all....

I'm guilty as of late - I am busy with my art pursuits and dont find time to read all thats posted and commentt and even evene less time to write hence my current offerings are all short pieces and usually of the humerous and nonsense genres..

                          • NafisaSB

completely in tune with your comments - some just pop up now and then ; some are silent spectators; some may just read to pass their time - this is a really meaningful question that demands a straightforward answer -
but maybe all are too caught up in their own lives to respond

                            • Doggerel Dave

Yes - there are limits to the level of commitment possible to extend here -- each must find their own comfort zone.. But why just pop a piece up here and then forget about it? Perhaps that's the only way they know to how express themselves; perhaps the thought of rational coherent prose is too terrifying...

all voices do not mingle equally. Its neither arrogance nor ignorance. All are not extroverts online, may posting poetry online is just an escape for them.

                              • Doggerel Dave

See your point. Don't believe I accused anyone (though I stand to be corrected) of either arrogance or ignorance - unless by ignorance you mean a lack of the realisation of what is potentially available to them.
                                Good to hear from you.

                                • Awam

                                  no you didn't accuse.i
