In Sydney town they’ve got it done;
It’s well and truly under way.
Everywhere - there’s another one;
They’re brand new buildings glass and grey.
**
No longer wanting tall towers,
They’re large low and rectangular.
Will save people spending hours
Travelling perpendicular.
**
This time the housing crisis is solved:
Governments are now go getters;
Trouble is I think we’ve been rolled -
Those damn things are data centres…

Real houses for artificial intelligence. Sad where we put our priorities. Good write Dave
Thanks for your endorsement, Soren. You have it precisely.
Just shows where priorities lie... and with taxpayers moneys and private investors avarice entwined, perhaps.🕊️🙏
Entwined is a good 'un. In lock step, I would say. They just seem to appear without any publicity (that I've noticed anyway).
The power those data centres use is frightening, and you're right, they're rolling them out everywhere.
I don't even think Orwell could have foretold the future we're heading into.
Not be long till every human is data anaylised the way we're heading.
I don't know if you've googled recently... a friendly AI starts chatting before I can go anywhere. For all I know, since they tell me my address (locality) with pinpoint accuracy, it is from the new and enthusiastic data centre down the road...
You know you're being listened to when you shout, I need a plank of wood.
Low and behold every website is offering you timber discounts.
Agreed. Shopping online requires much time, effort and nerves of steel!
Clever and wry—the turn lands clean, flipping hope into quiet disillusion with a sharp grin.
The grit is in that last line: progress dressed up as solution, but somehow missing the people it’s meant for.
Some would call it a mystery - housed promised, these pop up instead. But it aint no mystery to me...
Dave, this is sharp and controlled…you walk us through what feels like a solution, detail by detail, and then that last line reframes the whole thing in an instant. It’s got humor, but there’s truth sitting right under it. Strong piece, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thanks for that Tristan.
Worrying words Dave, AI seems to be progressing instead of humanity.
Andy
Well, as I mentioned above in places: the data centres are popping up everywhere, and if you hunt for something via Google Chrome a friendly AI pops up to give you the lowdown before you have even started.... pop pop..
I think there will be some reckoning before it all settles down, Andy. As for humanity...Have you listened to the news lately?
You take care of your local croquet pitch before someone blows it up or a mob of E bikes roar across it...
👍👍👍
Very nice, wow more AI data centres eh?
As stated. None in your country?
Thanks for the read.
I believe there will be looking at the IT hardware prices going through the roof lol.
There's no end to it is there?
Wry and sharply observed—this walks the line between civic optimism and quiet suspicion with a steady grin.
The grit is in the final reveal: “solutions” arriving neatly, while something less visible quietly takes their place.
Tried to mix early perceptions with final relisation.
Thanks for your support, Thomas.
I see, still tall enough to see where ya coming from tho' .. is it a height thing or summat .. Neville 😎👍
I live up two flights of stairs - That's enough, Neville. Reference to lifts in high rise and the then observed lack of height of these new constructions was an early thought of mine before realisation and disillusion set in...
so much truth in what you are saying - i see them springing up here too, and mushrooming like weeds....
In some ways it's deeply mysterious - How are they financed? Planning permission? And so on....
Take care.
Here it is bribery to the right pockets that have the sanctioning power🤔😔
My dog, that could never happen here on the reverse side of earth...😂
and its sad but true, that the trend is spiralling here...you are indeed lucky to be on that side, although staying here has many benefits...
You are not obliged to take everything I write at totally face value - this is, after all, a poetry site....
thanks for the candid admission - will note it. for future ..lol
have a good day
