It is true we all speak of love
but is it just a few
who really get to experienced it
for themselves?
I'm going to ask you
have you ever experienced it?
what is it to you?
Is it moonlight walks on a summers eve?
Is it taking a boat ride next to the Eiffel tower?
walking on a white sandy beach, holding hands
while the shore kisses your feet?
Is it when you know for sure
that the person you love is always on your side no matter what
whatever the situation?
a kiss under a coconut tree
or under a rainbow?
Is love, with the most magnificent sunset
you could ever wish to see?
but what if it's not like that at all?
What if love like this?
when everything around you goes to shit
loved ones have cancer?
mortgage payments waiting?
even buying fruit is a challenge?
due to economic conditions
nothing to look forward to
except the hope the electric doesn't run out at home?
Or your house actually burns down to a cinder?
the rain dances creating a hole in your roof
which would mean you would be sleeping in the rain
in my humble opinion
the latter part of my words
are what makes true love
everyone should always hold onto
because love is a challenge
that should be taken
and every punch in the heart
brings you closer to your soulmate
even if you doubt it yourself
that person who stays next to regardless of the storm
the weather the atmosphere the outcome
is the one who loves you
because nothing is guaranteed
that’s down to fate
we all have different ideas
of what those things mean to us
so I ask you once more...
what does love mean to you?
