Open Heart Surgery

Teddy.15

Is it so much to ask
just to have one happy dream?
I mean, without my excruciating grief creeping in
through the open window
that's been left ajar below,
slithering up the stairs
as if he was a lost and hungry snake
searching for Medusa
eventually slithering up the leg of my old oak bed
resting right beside me
as I dream my loss?
is it too much to ask,
that for once
I actually have a pleasant dream
one that isn't painted black in gore
awakening me breathlessly in terror?

Powerful work, sweet Teddy. This feels like grief refusing to sleep, crawling into the quiet places where memories still have teeth.
The imagery is dark and haunting, but underneath it is a simple human pleaβ€”for one peaceful moment where the heart can finally rest.

Yes thank you so much dear Thomas, I know I'm such a bag of joy! 🀣

A haunting dream in this poem of darkness that needs the light of day and cleaning of the room. Well written my friend

Ah, my dear sorrenbarret I thank you for your lovely interpretation and yes, just for a while a little sunshine on all of us. πŸ’œ

Grief never takes a break, always hits you on the blind.
Hopefully things get better and you grieve on your own terms.

          • Teddy.15

Dear Paul, you have said it so elegantly and yes, we should all be able to grieve on our own terms 🀣 I know I'm a right bundle of joy at the moment, thank you. 🌹

Teddy, what one heck of a haunting poem. I know the exhaustion of awful dreams personally...and you capture that terrible vulnerability of being pursued by pain even after consciousness releases us. This hit deeply, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

Thank you my darling Tristan, I guess if I look on the bright side I have an entire book of my Raven poems now. Today I'm taking my son to the Hard Rock Cafe in Florence, I'll spoil him all day. A day off from all the grief. πŸ’œ

Grief is the side kick of depression, both seem nearly impossible to deter or disperse. Nice.

                  • Teddy.15

Or when you lose someone you desperately loved. Thank you Dan. 🌹
