At last it was time,
The cooking had been completed.
I took it from the steamer,
Took the wrapping from the top,
Turned the basin upside down,
And there on the plate it stood
This nectar from the Gods,
My most favourite food
That I have ever tasted.
It took many hours of creation,
But there it was before me
Sitting in absolute glory,
Waiting for me to take a slice.,
The filling inside was cooked to perfection
The outside created with love,
So now all was ready.
I pulled the knife through it,
It just glided through it so easily,
I cut it in half and there I saw
All was well,
The inside stood firm.
I cut a large portion
Onto my plate,
The inside sliding out
Showing the glory of its soul.
I poured some gravy round it
And took the first taste.
So soft and tender it was
And the taste was so wonderful,
It had been many years since the last one
But now I had created another.
My enjoyment was complete
As I sat there in euphoria,
Eating my steak and kidney pud.
