Slow Sunday Mornings

Neville

Slow Sunday Mornings

The doves are both at it again

and it’s not even

five thirty five in the morning ..

They surely can’t

be mourning doves he thought

rubbing the sleep

from his eyes and smiling at her

still all fast asleep

beneath the second hand quilt

  laying by his side ..

Don’t you just love these early

wake up calls darling

while the dog is still dreaming

of long lost bones at

the foot of our stairs, making out

like an old tan rug ..

Jeez the church bell will begin in

an hour or so to add

extra depth and meaning to our slow

  Sunday morning rituals

don’t you wish it could go on forever ..
