I am like the ugly flowers
That folk commonly call weeds;
When they see me they think "homely"
But when I smile they are pleased....
"Oh how pretty! You are lovely!
If you would only smile more....."
And of course, just for a moment,
That I'm pretty we are sure.
Then again, as on with living,
We off go our sep'rate ways.
And rare it is I really smile:
When I do, that's what they say.

- Comment from author about the poem: So you know those moments in your tender youth that scar you for life? Okay, well, I can still recall when at the tender age of 12, while talking to an adult, I must've smiled, and it must've been unusual, for the person suddenly exclaimed, "Oh, you look so pretty when you smile! You should smile more!" and I realized I must be ugly otherwise. Right? Hahaha. Of course not, in fact when I shared this with my best friend, she and I laughed over it.
