We put up the storm windows yet again owing to the cold and against the bitter chill of winter. When I first stepped into my room following this, I was struck instantly with the dead silence of it.....afterall, I like to keep my windows WIDE open all summer, even in chilly weather, 'cuz I love the natural noises and sense of being outside (w/the amenities of the house) that it gives me. Lamenting my sorrows to my mother, she calmly related that they'd grown up with silence in the house anyway. So like, is everyone gonna think this sounds crazy? I hope not. This is what I was struck with initially.
No more hear the gentle breezes
And the rustling of the leaves.
No more hear the little crickets
That perpetually sing.
No more hear the birds all calling
Singing distantly or near.
No more the nat'ral world outside
But loud ringing in my ears.
Alas. I long for spring!
