I'll Look My Age, I Think

Cheeky Missy

What is the use in looking young?
I'd heard that life was much more fun.
For me it does not work that way,
For younger, older, guys my age......

The younger guys do smile friendly,
But shortly do inquire of me:
"Your age?" [Oh no, don't ask me THAT! ]
And swallowing shock they then pull back.

The older guys think I'm SO young....
I'm such a kid....it is no fun.
The guys my age think just the same;
And being the little girl's not great!

If it's so fun it's sure missed me;
To look my age works best, you see?
I must remind myself of this,
'Cuz looking young does seem such bliss!

  • Comment from author about the poem: You know all the cosmetics and surgery to aid the aging in looking like they've never lost their youth? Okay, so begin to feel yourself old, and then.....but it won't do me any good......then again, I and my kin have long been frequently known to look younger than our age.....hence the veracity of this.......

      Your poem is brilliant.Thers is a proverb in my mother tongue which says "we should not ask a woman's age and a man's salary'?Infact you look for your age but you have revealed your age
      why?
      yours lovingly,
      JVL

        Hmm. Why not? I didn't think of it being detrimental. Thanks very much for your thoughts and the proverb...I like it! Thanks for commenting and giving me such a high rating!

            Thank you very much for your reproof, dear brother, I begin to see now that I have been very foolishly indiscreet in this and other areas.....I'll endeavor to be more discreet from now on.

              Doesn't mean I can't comment on YOUR poetry.

              I liked your realism in this piece. Life being fun is not age-influenced. Sometimes the very young and beautiful have so many hangups I actually feel sorry for some if them.

              It is all about the attitude whether or not life and you can dance together. Attitude. I think I lost mine tonight during the give and take.

                Thank you very much for your comment! And please forgive me for the part I had in spoiling your fun tonight, will you? I'm sorry.
