Initially.....
My heart still longs
When I see you,
We could not be, I know.
Yet what we had has me screwed.
Or maybe not.
I just know this:
You've got a place in me....
Forever something persists.
I am not yours.
You won't be mine.
Yet I shall hold you dear,
Somehow I guess for all time.
I wish for you
The very best.
Yet I could envy her
That's caught and with you blest.
Just get me mad
And I'll hate you.
Prove you never loved me.
Then I can shrug you off too.
........................................................................................
Love's dilemma:
It once was WE.
Chemical reaction.
And somehow perpetually
You mean something.
More than before.
You're not nobody now.
Nor will be thus any more.
Somebody else
May come along,
And take my heart away.
And gladly I'll sing his song.
And I'll forget,
But we'll remain
A moment froze in time.
That forever me has changed.
When I see you,
I will recall....
You'll always special be.
And that's how it's always gone.
So let's be friends.
Not enemies.
I will remember you
Somehow affectionately.
And thus we part:
Since it's been WE,
I'll always feel for you.
I guess that's how it must be.

- Comment from author about the poem: Just thinking....it seems to be a chemical reaction that, no matter how we fare after in love, we're affected by each previous one, and they remain somehow forever special, don't they,....bitter or sweet?

Very well written, truly beautiful, among your very best. Great meter!
Aw, thanks a TON! And you would be the one to like it, seeing it is the Scamp's metre! Thanks so much for your comment...it means alot.
Nice words romantic at it's best.
Impressivo....it was worth your two bits! Thanks alot!
You have given a wonderful message. The person we loved may have married somebody else.Yet we could be friends. We need not become enemies.Life doesn't go as we planned or wished always. We have to accept the facts and unexpected happenings,
yours lovingly,
JVL
