Tru Luv.....

Cheeky Missy

"A Fortnight of Valentines"---my latest (crazy)whimsy....a collection of sappy sonnet (attempts), fraught with redundancy, and so hastily executed and crafted by imaginative fancy as to hopefully not be too repulsive to the reader.  And yes, fairly UNedited, presently.

Day Fifteen

(sonnet attempt # XXXIV)

XXXIV

The spark that started ev'rything survives.
Because the fire of true love kindled burns:
Now flick'ring, dancing, snapping, roars by turns;
And e'er anon the candle steady strives
To prove our love's not transient but thrives,
Through winds of doubt just sways and e'er returns,
A light of hope in dark hours, chance discerns
To grow, affection strength thereby derives.
Th'initial in'trest waning ne'er dies, nay,
But grows like that dancing flame, ever strong,
Which meeting in that first glance does e'er shine:
The light that cheers and knits our hearts each day,
The bond enduring perseveres life long....
And makes us say, "I love you, Valentine!"

  • Comment from author about the poem: This one only made it as far as the first five lines of the octave, then trying to finish it five days later, the initial thought got derailed; trying anew, I hope the sestet and last three lines of the octave match.... Yes, yes...I know a fortnight is only two weeks, but....when I was writing these for the series, dissatisfied with at least half of them (and having too much fun, I admit) I wrote an extra two valentines, to be switched around for two valentines I liked least....however....curiously(?) I discovered that in the course of the three weeks it took to write this series, the "love"(imaginary though it was), had matured, so I was left with not much room to exchange...anyway here is the first of the two "leftover valentines"....
