Alas Me!

Cheeky Missy

A part of me is quite wary
(The half that's nearly wise)
Which shrinking back in its corner,
Peeks out with fear-filled eyes:

And friendly, suave society
Seems waiting for my fall;
My wary, wiser half dreads that,
And to be silent, calls.

The other part to be carefree
To folly yields me up....
In carelessness say all I think,
And call it "having fun!"

It sticks its neck out very far,
And when it gets cut off;
It sews it up then very fast,
Returning....trouble scoffs.

Thus my dilemma see-sawing
Twixt wisdom and folly.
I fear the worser half wins out,
And e'er anon screws me.
