I never noticed the colors
Before they faded to grey
I never saw the nighttime
Before it turned to day
I never noticed beauty
Until it fell to disrepair
I never valued justice
Before nothing was fair
I never heard a single sound
Before the birds stopped their song
I never knew what was right
Until everything was wrong
I couldn’t think any thoughts
Before I had lost my mind
I never looked for treasure
Until there was nothing to find
I never knew how to swim
Before the world turned dry
I never spoke a word
Until I said goodbye
I never showed a smile
Before sadness invaded
I never looked for light
Until the world was shaded
I never could fall sleep
Until I was wide awake
I never knew what was real
Until everything was fake
I never found honesty
Before nothing was true
I never knew loneliness
Before I had met you
I never quite felt whole
Before I was torn apart
And I never knew love
Until you broke my heart

The conclusion is brilliant for many cannot disagree, never realizing how much they cared until they lost it and the hurt etched indelibly stayed. All your comparisons were fascinating to read and ponder. I enjoyed it.
Thank you. 🙂
This poem was very very clever! I don't really know what to say about it, seriously, 'cause I'm tongue tied, but it was brilliant, true and AWESOMEZZ!!!!!
