Melancholy Disposition

PerpetualFlowers

Sad, I am sad

I don't know why I'm sad.

I'm still young

But I'm sad.

The doctors call it depression

Because they read it out of a textbook

They aren't in my head

They don't feel what I feel,

Or what I am unable to

My first time at the mental hospital

The nurse asked me "How do you feel"

What a weird question, I thought

Because I just tried to kill myself

They wanted me on medicine

But, I had my own ways to kill the pain

Blades, alcohol, anything to feel numb

I would drink cough syrup like water

As if I needed it to live

Because maybe I did

Hey! Nice poem.I don't see anything big that stick ls out as wrong, but if you wanted to make it more interesting think of an experience you had at a hospital, but no one really saw or felt. Something you went through, and so did others and they could relate, but that no one really knowsnor understands. Overall, I did enjoy your poem (:

HI PF - The nice positive comment from Forlorn Dreams should lift you up ! We all feel SAD from time to time (even me) but we can always lift ourselves up again ! I do it through prayer and reading the Psalms etc and talking and sharing with positive people ! You are unique and you need to live to fulfil the purpose God created you for. Cutting - alcohol - cough syrup is NOT the answer ! The answer is POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING and counting all your Blessings. I'm praying for you and posting positive poems for you - keep looking up and keep reading my poems and the LIGHT will come ! I love the USA - what US State are you living in ? Your positive Friend - BRIAN :o) Smiling just for you ! :o)

I found this to be a very great poem, I hate it when people claim they understand . I feel as tho the most upsetting thing some one can say is that they understand, I always say to people I can relate to a degree, but I never say I understand. Everyone has their own perception of life, no matter the case no one will share the exact experience as some one else. I hope all goes well for you in the days ahead, and I am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I totally agree, it does annoy me when people say they understand and especially shrinks and doctors. I've had a psychologist that admitted to me that she didn't have any personal experiences with mental illness. Like I'm not some passage out of a textbook. It's very frustrating. Anyway, thank you for the words of encouragement and I look forward to seeing more of your work too.

A glimpse of the other side... where we find ourselves all to often.
