FLINT MATTERS!

joelabowmansr

Flint matters!

Flint is not like a piece of lint to be brushed off our clothing.

It is a city where real people are horribly suffering.

Just an hour away from Detroit which is my hometown.

When I think about Flint's water, my face begins to frown.

How long has the water been polluted with lead?

How many people will get sick, or end up dead?

It's no accident that this has happened in Flint.

Powerful people decided how the money was spent.

Environmental injustice is another form of brutality,

In mostly poor areas where there's pain and poverty.

To some extent, this happens in every urban setting,

If it hasn't happened where you live, consider that a blessing.

The following truth must be understood,

There's no contaminated water in rich neighborhoods . . .

No children whose development has been stunted,

Because some leaders' responsibility was punted.

Some see this as a political football,

Not a national evil that should be confronted by all.

Some leaders are selling us out,

So they can obtain status or clout.

Please be reminded of what happened in Michigan,

Next time you get some water from your own kitchen.

Lord, show us how to help the folks in Flint,

Through a visit or some water that needs to be sent.

Flint matters!

Flint is not like a piece of lint to be brushed off our clothing.

It is a city where real people are horribly suffering.

WELCOME JOEL - Great first poem - with a great content - the necessity of a pure water supply for every town and city ! I love "rhyming couplets" so the form of your poem solicits attention. Interesting to read - sad to recite. I have visited Detroit (Ford Museum) and despite the fact that MICHIGAN is one of the most beautiful States in the USA I know it has financial problems which might (partially) explain why your water supply is less than ideal. My Brother lived in Mexico (Puebla) and we had to buy water in bottles because the tap water was not potable but one does not expect that in the USA. Out TAP WATER in the UK is excellent no need to boil or purify before drinking. You state a global truism "No contaminated water in rich neighbourhoods !" Do you think TRUMP will worry about the FLINT WATER ? NO ! But Hillary might ! I will put FLINT MI on my prayer list ! Thanks for caring & sharing - BRIAN

Hey Brian, good to hear from you. To answer your question ... No, Trump will not worry about Flint's water. Certainly, Hillary would be more likely, but I'm not optimistic when it comes either of the candidates. Can you tell me how I can modify my profile, add a picture of myself, etc? I'm having a little trouble navigating this site. Thank, Joel.

Ok, Brian, as you can see, I'm learning how to work this site. I'll holla at you later.
