Poetry is words ~ in any language
In any order ~ in any style ~ any time.
However the words are not from the head
Academic & intellectual ~ they are from the heart
Sensuous ~ intimate ~ meaningful ~ loving.
Modern Poetry has dispensed with rhyme ~ and
Often with reason but that is its beauty & charm.
Poems can be short ~ three lines like Haiku
Or fourteen lines like Sonnets or hundreds of
Lines ~ like the Cantos of the famous Ezra Pound.
Because they are from the heart ~ poetry is not
Conditioned by classical style (Villanelles etc .....)
By rhyme or rhythm (although it helps recitation)
Spelling Grammar & Punctuation "Gone with the Wind"
Some languages like the Romance Languages
French ~ Spanish ~ Italian ~ Portuguese etc
Make wonderful poetry ~ German is a challenge
But English has such a rich vocabulary it is great
For rhyme ~ resonance ~ assonance ~ alliteration
If you post on MPS in a language ~ other than English
A translation is appreciated ! All poetry is WELCOMED !

- Comment from author about the poem: I like classical poetry l However in the 21st C we have to accept that "Modern Poetry Rules ~ KO !" Many modern poets have also dispensed with Grammar ~ Spelling and Punctuation ~ as we know it. My attitude is that poems are to be enjoyed not endured ! Brian, I agree with you that poetry is from the heart. I'm old-school... I love the whole classical stuff as you can see from my writing. The bulk of my poems are in Spanish written in traditional poetic style. But, hey, that's poetry, it come from the heart and that's what matter.

It would be a pleasure for all if you posted a Spanish Poem ~ with an English translation of course. There are some other Spanish speakers on MPS. Yes, please do post your Haiku. I have some poems in Haiku, which in time, I will publish in MPS, I haven't written any in Spanish. May I recommend Pablo Neruda, consider one of the great in Latin American poetry. Also, Gabriela Mistral.Both Nobel prize winners in literature.
