- Comment from author about the poem: In the UK ~ Christmas Crackers are an absolute necessity at any "Christmas Meal" before ~ on ~ after Christmas day . It's only 12 December and I've already pulled three crackers ! In the UK an average box of 12 costs about £7 ($10) but can cost over £100 depending on the value of the present inside ! Christmas Crackers (in their present form) were invented in London by Tom Smith in 1847 (170 years ago) and traditionally contain ~ paper hat ~ small gift ~ motto and a bad joke ! They always go ~ BANG ~ if pulled properly. The WORLD RECORD for a chain of people each "pulling a cracker" is 1031 people set by the Harrodian School in December 2015 ! At 50p a cracker it cost over £500 to stage ! Thanks for visiting please comment ~ Love to all BRIAN XOX

I have never heard of a christmas cracker so it was educational for me! Your poem was well done and funny and authors notes were very useful! Great job, Brian! Hugs in the spirit-Christina

Wonderfully written poem
THANKS TONY ~ Pleased you liked both the STRUCTURE and the SUBJECT ~ BRIAN
Welcome
Neat. Would love to experience.
YESS INDEED "A" ~ I have spent Thanksgiving in the USA but never Christmas ! I hadn't realised that you did not normally have CRACKERS ~ MORRIS DANCING ~ it is obviouslyna MAD ENGLISH TRADITION. The two fun things are the BIG BANG to scare GRANNY and the DOG and the silly paper hats which everyone must wear before the TURKEY can be carved ! Best Wishes ~ BRIAN
