DOES THE OLD TOWN LOOK THE SAME ~ AS WHEN YO LEFT ?
I could go back ~ I should go back
And given a chance I would go back
But WHY ? To see my friends of long ago
Meeting ~ Greeting People I no longer know
Some still alive ~ but some are gone
Not seeing others ~ who have just moved on !
The children that I played with
When I was only five
Would I recognise them now ?
Playing cricket ~ dustbin wicket ~ in my Granddad's drive
Or Jimmy's Farm where I once learned
Just how to milk a COW !
And what about AMANDA ~ The first Girl that I kissed
She cried when I was leaving ~ And would I still be missed ?
And what about my Grammar School
Where I was often gated
FORD factory where I worked each day
Whose cars were greatly overrated
The ColLege where I studied ~ to make me more efficient
The day I graduated and considered ~ self-sufficent !
The SUPERMARKETS ~ where I shopped
The CHURCHES ~ that I prayed in
The WOODS ~ where with my female friends
I very often strayed in !
Where are they now ? All married and with kids
Forbidden fruit ~ although stlll cute
My love life on the skids !
I could go back ~ I should go back
But having thought about ~ now I doubt it !
I don't think ~ I ever really ~ SHOULD GO BACK !
Thanks for reading ~ comments welcome ~ Love to ALL ~ BRIAN XOX

I guess it is the answer to why one leaves home in the first place that they might or might not return? I do not go back anymore, although, I do drive through on occasion as it is a beautiful place. Nice idea to get one thinking, Brian!
Thanks HONEY ~ Pleased you liked it and it made you think ~ Hugs BRIAN
😀
nah I'm still wanted by the authorities
nice poem ww
Thanks for you comment Willy ~ sometimes we can't go back and face all those paternity suits etc ! Yours BRIAN
Very nice poem, Brian. I still live where I grew up so I'm not the one to ask. I always like a good trip down memory lane. Hugs in spirit--Christina
Good for you CHRIS ~ when you do move ~ you not only lose a lot fo Friends but also los of very useful contacts ~ Love & Hugs in the Spirit ~ MONKEY !
The poem is nicely done in rhyme, meter and in the emotions it conjures up for the reader. I grew up in a beautiful country side atmosphere which is now covered with subdivisions, shopping malls, traffic, etc. The worst is all the gaudy advertisement billboards, lack of an architectural theme and trash on the road sides. Here we do not use the word "gated". Websters says: (at British universities) to punish by confining to the college grounds.
Great and wonderful write. I don't think I would go back
Thanks TONY ~ I went back once but never again ! BRIAN
Welcome
I'm impressed. As others have started it makes you think. Theres really no point to much of what people call "social interactions". Perhaps we do so to no longer feel as if we are alone. Thats the only reason good enough I have thought of to risk harm and death in this world. Then again I leave my home only for two things. To help where I can, those who truly need it, and to obtain what I need to live.
YES SEON ~ HOME in essence the place where we are at any point in time. Travelling to places deemed to be exotic ~ is expensive and can lead to discontent. If we have to move for work etc we should be content to live near our job and not hanker to return to our roots. This is never a good idea when we have moved on ! Most people I know who moved back have regretted it ! Thanks BRIAN
Well I went back and nothing was the same - familiar yet distant - so the poem really resonates with me
Thanks MICHAEL ~ Many people tell me that ~ They go back but time and people have moved on so far and so fast that THY FEEL OUT OF PLACE ! Thanks for your comment ~ BRIAN
