Coffee House Thoughts

HalcyonHusky

I live in a world of devastation
And yet I have to fake a smile
Hypocrisy across the nation
And everything's becoming vile
How can I keep on acting
And from pain keep distracting

Everyone I know is wrong
Or I don't want to be right
Can I pretend for long
Or will I have to fight
They all say lives matter
Turn a blind eye when heads splatter

I can't entrust my own family
They don't see it as I do
To see their difference hurts me
And with me they'll be through
They go to a righteous place
Take what they want spit in it's face

Everyone says I'm abnormal
I don't claim to be holy
They have manners act formal
Yet care for eachother solely
I feel like there is no truth
I panic alone in a restaurant booth

WELCOME HUSKY ~ Thanks for your first poem which I found challenging ! It is elegantly written with consistent rhyme (ababcc pattern) and rhythm. The subject is disturbing because it touches on what is happening today in the USA and elsewhere. ISTANZA 1. World in devastation (true !) but all of wearing fake smiles and pretending TRUMPISM & BREXIT never happened ! S 2. Pretending all is OK and turning a blind eye ! S 3. Many families are split on these issues which (in my mind) is a major problem and cause for grief & social unrest ! S 4. Because we see the problems and are concerned for the future ~ we are out of synch with "normality" and a down town Chicago Restaurant Booth becomes the loneliest and scariest place in the World ~ OMG ~ Your poem is almost the plot for a Horror Moovie ! Thanks for scaring BRIAN ~ Please check my Poems ~ Thanks B
