H O M E L E S S N E S S ~ An Acrostic

BRIAN & ANGELA

YOUNG HOMELESS MAN ~ BUSKING IN LONDON 2016

HOMELESSNESS ~ Is the worst position to be in !

ONE has no base and no shelter from the weather

MEN  outnumber WOMEN by  9 to 1 in the UK

EVERY HOMELESS PERSON has their reasons why

LOVE ~ Broken Marriages and Divorce and Separation

EMPLOYMENT ~ Many are long-term UNEMPLOYED

SEVERE dependence on hard & soft drugs & alcohol

SEVERE DEPRESSION ~ unablke to cope with life

NOBODY  seems to care except the CHURCH & AGENCIES

EVERYBODY is critical and most just "Walk on by" !

SOCIAL SERVICES (UK) do their best but underfunded

SOMEBODY needs to care ~ It could be YOU & ME next !

  • Comment from author about the poem: For a variety of SOCIOECONOMIC reasons the number of people sleeping rough in Greater London (population almost 9 million) is about 10,000 and it increases year by year. The majority (90%) are Men ~ homeless Females tend to be very vulnerable and for them it is a last resort. 80% of Rough Sleepers in London are aged 26 ~ 55 and less than half were born in the UK. 5 out of every 1000 Families in Greater London are technically Homeless ~ The figure in the rest of England (population 45 million) is 2 out of every 1000 Families. I have more empathy with Homeless Street Beggars who are selling the BIG ISSUE (do you buy one ?) or BUSKING (singing or playing an instrument). I think FEMALES need to have a BIG DOG ! I do like the way you highlight the issues of the day in such a sympathetic (and poetic) way. i

Thanks for your comment MICHAEL ~ Those of us fortunate to have a JOB and a HOME should be both grateful and aware of the plight of those less fortunate. Yours BRIAN

This is a very good acrostic about a problem we face around the world. Like I said yesterday, in smaller cities, we tend to take care of our own, but in large metro areas its a huge problem. Need an address for benefits or to get a job! (that was brought up by someone else) But thanks for caring and sharing as you say! Hugs in the spirit--Christina

Thanks CHRIS for your very empathetic comment. I have lived in small Towns and Large Cities. The bigger the City the more acute the problem. Metropolitan New York has 26,000 "rough sleepers" most of them Ethnic Minorities. TRUMP should build more TOWERS to house them all ! In the Databank Society ~ without an address you can get nothing which is why many Homeless "sofa surf" to get a temporary address ! Heavenly Hugs ~ BRIAN.

GRACIAS AMIGO ~ You know what the Hispanics say "Mi Casa es Tu Casa". If we all shared our "homes" then there would not be a problem. In the UK there are thousands of vacant properties and often a single person occupying a property that could easily accommodate a Family of EIGHT. UK Towns are all taking a quota of Syrian Refugee Families and accommodating then in Houses specially purchased by the Council for Refugees. Every Human Being should have somewhere to call HOME !
