THE CATHEDRAL ~ A Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL ~ PARIS FRANCE ~ COMPLETED 1354

Awe inspiring it has stood for centuries

Place of solitude and place of worship

I ascend the steps ~ enter the portal

I am instantly ushered to Heaven !

Quiet serene ~ sunlight through the stained glass

The Virgin Mary gazes down at me

A Jewish Maid still pondering in her heart

Why was she chosen to bear The Son of God ?

Multiple candles flicker ~ each one a Prayer

A Priest floats silent to Confessional

Nodding to Ladies in their mantillas

Sobbing for their own sins ~ and sins of others

Scents of incense ~ Saints ~ JESUS CRUCIFIED

Impel me to fall on my knees and PRAY !

Thanks for sharing ~ comments welcome ~ Blessings  BRIAN

  • Comment from author about the poem: Wherever I travel in the World I always find CATHEDRALS very special. To me they are a symbol of the Faith of those who designed and built them and consequently a symbol today of the importance and influence of Christianity in the World today. Notre Dame Cathedral is special because of its unique beauty its History and Antiquity and where it is ! In the Centre of Paris France which many regard as the World's most beautiful and exotic Capital City ! If you have never visited Paris make it a must this year. We are fortunate in the UK that it is still relatively cheap for us to spend a week in all The European Capitals and each one is unique and unforgettable ~ London ~ Paris ~ Rome ~ Berlin ~ Athens ~ Madrid ~ Budapest ~ Moscow ~ Prague ~ Istanbul ~ the list is endless the reward is infinite ! Comments welcome ~ Blessings ~ BRIAN

THANKS MICHAEL ~ ATHENS really is awesome ~ At night the Parthenon is Floodlit and dominates the City also the Acropolis, The GREEKS are very friendly it is pity their economy is so waek they have so much to offer. If you don't know the Greek Alphabet it is worth learning and then you can transliterate. If something reads (transliterates) as APOTHACARY you know it is a CHEMISTS otherwise it is ALL GREEK ! Thanks for reading ! BRIAN
