THE COTTON CLUB ~ An Acrostic

BRIAN & ANGELA

THE COTTON CLUB was very popular inn New York in

HARLEM ~ between 1923 ~ 35 in the Prohibition Era

EXCLUSIVE "Whites only Club" with mainly Black performers

CELEBRITY SUNDAY NIGHTS Were a showcase for many

OTHER Famous Stars ~ Paul Robeson ~ Al Jolson ~ Sophie

TUCKER ~ Judy Garland ~ George Gershwin ~ Mae West

THE REGULAR PERFORMERS ~ Duke Ellington ~ Count Baisie

OTHERS included Fats Waller ~ Ethel Waters ~ Bessie Smith

NEW DANCES were all the rage at THE COTTON CLUB !

CHARLESTON ~ A very vigorous dance and still popular

LINDY HOP ~ Swing Dance by Tall ~ Tanned ~ Terrific dancers

UNIQUE Tap Dancer BIOJANGLES earned $3500 a week ($63k today !)

BLACK BOTTOM was a very sensuous and popular dance !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Keep Dancing ~ BRIAN

The COTTON CLUB moved to Broadway in the Mowtown Era (1935 - 40)

and there were Cotton Clubs in Chicago and Culver City (California).

A NEW COTTON CLUB opened in HARLEM (NY) in 1977. In the UK we

have a touring COTTON CLUB TRIBUTE ~ A mature "all White" Jazz

Octet ~ Six (mainly Black) Lindy Hop Dance Group a "Bojangles" Tap

Dancer and a Black American  "look and sing alike" Ethel Waters !

It is an excellent Show and well worth a visit if they are in your

area.  Thanks for reading ~ Love BRIAN XOX.

Thanks CHRIS ~ I realise I can't teach you Americans anything about your own History of the 20th C or about any of the 50 States. In a Poem like this I just try to show how much we in the UK appreciate the great US Stars of Stage & Cinema and how much they have added to our Culture. The Cotton Club Tribute touring the UK is Awesome. After 5 minutes you are back in HARLEM NY in the 1920's and stay there mesmerised for the next 2 hours ! Thanks for your comments you are my MUSE ! Cotton Club Hugs ~ BRIAN

Thanks HONEY ~ One of the problems is with Google ~ Wiki etc is that all the info in the World is available at the touch of a button ~ This is both an advantage and a disadvantage of the Cyber Age. I have been to Harlem (love the Church Services) but the CC is long since gone but not the VIBES. Pleased you enjoyed the fruits of my labour ! Hugs BRIAN.
