PLEASE SUPPORT ~ GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND

BRIAN & ANGELA

CLAIRE JOHNSON (50) AND MARK GAFFY (51) FROM STOKE ON TRENT

(UK)  FELL IN LOVE AND GOT MARRIED WHEN THEIR GUIDE DOGS

VENICE & RODD ~ BONDED ON THE TRAINING COURSE !

DOGS  can bond with HUMANS ~ very empathetic

They serve us in so many ways ~ without them we're pathetic !

They know your heart ~ they read your mind

In the topic of this Poem ~ Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Gift of Sight ~ it really is our most precious sense

Without our sight we live in darkness and suspense

DOGS are prepared by Puppy Walkers ~ then trained to obey

And be contained and be constrained ~ to work and guide all day.

The perfect breed for Guide Dogs is the LABRADOR

They don't get too excited and lie quietly on the floor,

The service in the UK is all funded by donation

A DOG can serve for seven years ~ an average estimation.

The cost to train ~ sustain a  DOG  is very far from cheap

The cost is fifty thousand pounds for training and upkeep !

So cherish please your gift of sight and to the BLIND be kind

And please support your National Scheme of GUIDE DOGS  for the BLIND.

  • Comment from author about the poem: LABRADORS are a very special breed of DOG ~ Well behaved and very empathetic with Children and the Elderly. Consequently they make excellent Guide Dogs for the BLIND and Hearing Dogs for the DEAF. Guide Dogs for the Blind (and partially sighted) was established in the UK in 1931. There are about 5,000 Guide Dogs active in the UK and 1,300 Puppies are born each year (from Guide Dogs) ready to be trained by Puppy Walkers in preparation for training and their ultimate utilisation as Guide Dogs for the Blind. There is no upper age limit for a Person to be assigned a Guide Dog and children of Secondary School age have been assigned a Guide Dog. Persons of limited means can be provide with funds for the feeding and up keep of their Guide Dog. The Annual cost ~ in the UK ~ is about £50 million ($65 million) all of which has to be raised by subscription and sponsorship of the GUIDE DOGS ! Comments welcome ~ Yours BRIAN XOX

Very good poem. Love the rhyme scheme-you know me! You wrote on a very excellent cause. Initially I was thinking about all working dogs but dogs that work for the blind are a special breed, of course. Nice picture and backstory about those two folks. All around fabulous write! Hugs--Christina
