MAN IN BLACK ~ JOHNNY CASH

BRIAN & ANGELA

WELL ~ you wonder why I always dress in Black

Why you never see bright clothes upon my back

And why does my appearance seem to have a sombre tone ?

Well there's a reason for the clothes that I have put on ........

I wear the Black for the poor and broken down

Livin' in the hopeless hungry side of town

I wear it for the Prisoner ~ who's long since paid for his crime

But is prisoned 'cos he is a victim of the times ..........

I wear it fo the ones who never read

Or never listened to the words that JESUS said

About the road to happiness through Love and Charity

Why you'd think The Lord is talkin' straight to you and me  ........

Well we're doin' mighty fine I do suppose

In our streak o' lightning cars and fancy clothes

But just so your reminded of the ones who are held back

That's why you'll always see me ~ WEARIN' BLACK !

  • Comment from author about the poem: JOHNNY CASH was voted the BEST COUNTRY SINGER in the 20th Century an accolade rightly deserved ~ his sound is "Pure Country". In a addition to being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame he is also in the Halls of Fame of Rock & Roll and Gospel Music ! His career spanned 50 years and he sold over 50 million albums ! He was born in ARKANSAS in 1932 and died in 2003 a few months after his second Wife JUNE CARTER daughter of the famous Carter Family ~ Pioneers of Country / Gospel Music. Like ELVIS his voice is unique and instantly recognisable. His daughter ROSANNE CASH (by his first wife) is also a famous Country Singer. He became a very committed Christian and was invited to sing at Billy Graham Crusades. There is only ONE JOHNNY CASH ! Comments welcome ~ Love to ALL ~ BRIAN XOX

I love the poem. Johnny Cash had a hard life but won through. He recorded an album in Folsom prison I believe.

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks PHILIP ~ Things were never easy for Johnny ~ His first Wive divorced him because of his drunkenness ~ womanising ~ use of uppers & downers etc. They had four daughters. His second wife JUNE CARTER ~ got him back on the straight and narrow. He did sing in Folsom prison. Yours BRIAN
