women's rights? what is that?

Jooles

Notice of absence from Jooles
I disappear for months on end......just my life but I always come back!

I work 40 hours plus but in my house you'll find no dust

My spare time Is my kids for a mum this is a must

It's a woman's duty to be able to do it all

With friends I grab a coffee as long as there's 2 weeks notice given

Housework, work, children, social time we do it all we don't give in

We fought for this freedom we are blessed

Wife, Sister, daughter, aunt our duties never done

A concerts on but not for me this week's no time for fun

Emily Pankhurst would be proud

I'm tired this week I yawn and rub my eyes

What are you tired for woman's dreams now can reach the skies

Woman got all the freedom they ever wanted

Ironing done, hoovering done, preparing for the long week ahead

2 more washings on and maybe time for bed

A women's rights in action

What did they fight for and has it been achieved

Has it been abused and incorrectly perceived

A right?  A duty? Or an excuse to use at will

  • Comment from author about the poem: I'm not sure how this poem will sit with everyone....im not even sure how it sits with me. This poem came about the other week as it had been a LONG week and I was knackered...40 plus hours worked. .. and the comment I received was you only do 10-5 (I work through my lunch) and 10-4 on sunday. Now the person saying this had worked 25 hours that week and had done hee haw else(sorry it was a man). I would love my day to start at 10 and not 6.45 with the kids....I would love it to finish at 5....not whenever I tidy the house...do dinner baths etc. It just kinda pissed me off to be honest. On the flip side though....women's rights is a phrase banded about for the wrong reasons and used for extreme behaviour and as an excuse. I'm all for EQUAL rights in every situation. I'm all for women supporting women but sometimes it a very unfair world

I love women and you did a fine job with the poem. I too feel that the rights got carried a little overboard especially when the movement started creating eunuchs in stead of men.

There's a balance and I think as a society we don't get that balance 😮

This seems to be the lot of so many of our lovely women - enjoyed the read - from language used (knackered, Pankhurst etc) are you in the UK - sounds like it.

            • Jooles

I am..funny that language gives us away lol thanks

Throughout our married life my wife and I have shared the work in the house we both cooked, cleaned and I do all the ironing. I am a great believer in equality for all but now it is all down to my as my wife is unable to do these things any more due to ill health. So I know where you are coming from Jooles. Good write.

              • Jooles

Thank you. Sounds like a lovely partnership. I believe on equality....just think as a society we don't have it right yet for either Sex which is sad

Could not agree more ! Totally unfair the way women are seen. Not much has changed😟

                  • Jooles

Yeah that's exactly the questions I was raising.....what did we fight for and did we get it? Is there equality? Also there are people that try to over compensate to prove their worth as a sex... Laddettes etc
