Fits tune and hymn: Blessed Assurance

Based on Psalm 81 part

********

Sing aloud unto God our strength

And make a joyful noise to him at length

Take a psalm, and raise a thankful song

Bring here instruments, praise all day long

Chorus

O that my people hearkened to me

And they had walked in all my ways, see

Then I should soon for them have subdued

Their enemies, my people renewed

Praise Him with timbrel, harp, psaltery

Or lute or lyre, with them now worship free

Blow trumpets loudly, time of new moon

Festival days return here quite soon - Chorus

His people called to Him, He did hear

He did deliver them, they did He fear

And He did test, waters Meribah

Strife, contention, yet did not them bar - Chorus

Hear, O my people, I to you speak

Turn now unto me, and me now do seek

Worship no strange gods, idolatry

I am your Lord God, see only me - Chorus

If they had listened, He would then act

Faithful and true to His covenant pact

But Israel's people, they heard Him not

Trusted not to Him, Him they forgot - Chorus

If having obeyed, the Lord had done

Deeds wondrous for them, e'en to every one

Then submitted unto Him, they would

Be, the haters of the Lord, as should - Chorus

But Israel's time should e'er have endured

He finest food, drink, would to them procured

Would have fed wheat fine, them satisfied

Honey from rock too, none Him beside - Chorus

I've far to go to match the original hymn-writer! Over 8,000 hymns, even though blind since infancy, and living to age 95. A lifelong Methodist too! (G/F60!).

Methodism is good, as is this hymn.

Hello Goldie - dunno why I've not done over 8,000 hymns yet, seeing as I'm millions of years old, so I say! heehee.

Well you must have written that many by now, I showed you how to write in spite of the triceratops keep on attacking us!

THANKS BROTHER ~ This is one of my favourite hymns ! Always chose it if I'm preaching the GOSPEL ~ Singing it really lifts the congregation up to Heaven. History tells me BILLY GRAHAM used it as the theme tune for his first LONDON CRUSADE in 1954 and apparently it has been popular as a congregational hymn ever since ! Beverley Shea went to be with the Lord aged 103 a couple of years ago and Cliff Burrows (93) last year only BILLY is left aged 97. I have visited his memorial Library in Charlotte N Carolina where his wife RUTH is buried ~ very moving. Thanks for your very positive witness on this site, Your hymn based on PSALM 81 is very moving ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN

Thanks B. I thought Billy is 98 now? Not sure.

Thanks "O" you are right he was born in 1919 so 78 is right. The trio BILLY ~ BEV ~ CLIFF all lived Godly ~ but very full lives ~ the LORD blessed them with very long and very fulfilled lives ~ AMEN Billy is reckoned through his crusade and radio ministry to have reached nearly 3 billion people and countless thousands have been saved through his Ministry. When GOD chooses a Man like The Apostle Paul or Martin Luther or John Wesley or Billy Graham then miracles really do happen ! Yours in Christ BRIAN
