Waiting On The Landing

WriteBeLight

I book my flight.

I climb aboard.

My phone’s now turned,

To Airplane Mode.

I buckle myself,

Into my seat.

Nervously together,

My knees and feet.

The Attendants motion,

The safety rules.

Pay close attention,

Or, play the fool.

The turbines start,

Their increasing roar.

Pilot pushes forward,

Take-off’s in store.

I close my eyes,

And, say a prayer.

Other eyes at windows,

Emotionless stares.

Suddenly we’re light,

Up in the air.

Fuselage bird,

Without a care.

I try to sit quiet,

Hope calm’s then hence.

Before I know it,

Soft landing imminent.

Hope you had a happy landing.

    • WriteBeLight

Yes. Thankfully. Had many on my trip to and from my destination last week to Minnesota. Took three planes to and three back. What a trip!

Great lines - hope the occasion was good.

        Great poem lady
        Lovely flow to it
        My kind of poem
        On the subject of
        Flying, I love it
        My other half
        Doesn't....
        We're off to Spain
        For a week starting
        On the 6th may...
        I am sooo looking
        Forward to it...
        Gonna see how
        My poetic juices
        Are in southern
        Spain....and
        Hopefully post
        Something.....

Good write. In pilots terms a good landing is when the plane gets down onto the tarmac, a great landing is one where the plane can take off again after the landing!

Good point! Cannot have one without the other. Thanks Goldfinch!

This is a nicely written poem revealing our angst in flying. But you gave a lighthearted twist.

                • WriteBeLight

I have to say that I have overcome my fear of flying. I just felt if no one else was scared, then why should I be. But, had a couple of rough landings. Thank goodness for brakes! Thanks rrodriguez 🙂
