Mercy Marvellings

orchidee

Fits tune: Louvan

(one tune to 'Lord of all being, throned afar')

Psalm 57

*******

1. Unto me, O God, be merciful

For my soul it trusts in you all

And in the shadow of your wings

I will hide myself, my soul sings

2. Will hide me until troubles pasr

Will cry to you, whose mercies last

You who for me all things perform

Shelter me from the raging storm

3.  He shall save me from reproach

Of those that against m encroach

God shall send forth His mercy and truth

Keep me in His shadow, His booth

4.  My soul among lions it is

And I amongst men, such as this

They who are set on fire to do

Evil, their deeds, words, against you

5. Be you exalted, O God high

Above the heavens and the sky

And your glory so let it be

Above all the earth, bold and free

6.  They for me have prepared a net

But I fall in it not as yet

Though my soul bowed down heavily

And they do dig a pit for me

7.  But, behold, that same pit have they

Fallen into it, their own way

Returned upon their heads, for you

O Lord do save me, me renew

8.  My heart, O God, is on you fixed

I shall have no allegiance mixed

For on you I shall ever stay

Singing and praising you alway

9.  Awake my tongue, and psaltery

Harp shall play too, all skilfully

I will praise you 'midst nations sure

For your mercy great evermore

10.  And too your truth, great to the clouds

Not covered now by any shrouds

Above the heavens be exalted

Above the earth your glory's stead*

* stead = placing, dwelling
