Tried to kid myself,
Just couldn’t, I know.
Inside the guilt,
Felt it grow and grow.
I just can’t do that,
Must myself, be true.
Because why the heck,
Would I want to play fool?
I’ve heard the saying,
“Kidding myself.”
When, I won’t face facts,
While at me, they pelt.
So, bite the bullet.
Do what’s right.
Sleep so soundly,
Through a peaceful night.
Because in the end,
In the mirror, only me.
I know the truth,
No one’s fool, I’ll be!

I love this poem. I find the message to be an important one-- trying not to kid yourself or fool yourself. Because if you fool yourself, you are the greater fool. This is really great insight into the innermost problem in our society. People not just lying to others, but lying to themselves so they can pretend they are someone who they're not. This is truly a wonderful poem.
Thanks so very much Jessie! I agree with your comments about society today and blame a lot of that on social media, with regard to the younger users. They can hide from the world but not from themselves. Thank you again for your very considerate comment 🙂
Depends if you (well, me then!) can look in the mirror without it cracking! heehee. A fine write. Is a vampire looking in your mirror there - no reflection. Not that I'm gonna write about them - too 'dark'.
Very funny orchidee! Thanks for the comment 🙂
If only people never lied but told the truth to the best of their ability .
Only in a perfect world I guess swingline. Personally, I feel much better keeping it real. No need to B.S. It is very frustrating when people lie when you know they are doing so, yet they think that by saying the lie it becomes reality. A very un-well mind 🙁
You cannot fool yourself. God write.
Got that right Goldfinch. And thanks for the comment!
Only a fool fools himself (or herself!).
I agree, Michael. But, only for a while 🙂
well written and expressed
Thanks Tony!
