Fits tune: Binchester
('Happy are they, they that love God')
Psalm 74 v.12 - 23
*********
1. For God of old, He is my King
To Him let praises ring
He works salvation in the earth
Brings people to new birth
2. The sea He divided it strong
The people passed along
Through on dry land to safety brought
For God His people sought
3. The day is yours, night is your too
You prepare light, sun, new
That it shine bright with glorious ray
Enlightening our way
4. You have set all borders of earth
Given each land its worth
Summer, Winter, Autumn you make
And neither Spring forsake
5. Remember Lord, the enemy
Has reproached you, here see
And that foolish ones have blasphemed
Have not your name esteemed
6. O deliver me not, my soul
To them, but make me whole
For I am as your turtle-dove
The focus of your love
7. Forget not Lord, here be the poor
Needing strong help for sure
Have respect to your covenant
Evil does not relent
8. Dark places of the earth contain
Dwellings of cruelty, pain
O let not oppressed be ashamed
Nor be their name defamed
9. Let the poor and needy you praise
And thanks to you upraise
Arise, O God, plead your own cause
Bring peace to tumults, wars
10. Forget not the foolish reproach
Of wicked who encroach
Nor forget voice of enemies
You who all good, evil, sees

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 metre (Common Metre = CM). Based on part of a 'lament' Psalm. The original hymn says 'happy' yet it has a rather lamenting tune, I think.
