Freight Train

WriteBeLight

There’s not much out there,

Causes such a pain

Creating jammed traffic,

The noisy freight train.

It chugs along,

Pulling cars,

Full of materials,

From near and far.

You can never tell,

When it will arrive,

Squeaking its brakes,

While you wait in line.

Can’t take a left,

Or, even right.

Streets are narrow,

Lanes are tight.

So, just sit and wait,

Five miles per hour.

Late for work,

Over us, has power.

There’s just no winning,

About it, nothing good.

High pitched squawks and squeaks,

Like nails on a blackboard.

So, try as I may,

Will search and look,

For a different route,

For my morning commute.

Ha ha , where I last worked was between two tracks . Sometimes to avoid being late I would try to backtrack and try to go around only to be caught at the other track by another train .

That is very frustrating. I know they serve a great purpose, but I wish they would come by after rush hour! Thanks swingline 🙂

You paint it well - I can feel the frustration.

      • WriteBeLight

Happens at least two times a week. What a PITA! Thanks Michael 🙂

I hate it when you are there at the crossing guard, the train stops and reverses for a few minutes.. kudos.

Sometimes I do not mind, as I am on my way back to work from the gym and I can use it as an excuse. But most times it really sucks! Thanks Augustus!

Imagine walking from the parking lot to your office and the track is several hundred yards away when the horn blast blows from one of these beasts; and the sound bounces off the building back into your nearly bleeding eardrums...you quicken your step to get inside!

They can be so annoying with their blasts as well. Great point! Thanks Gary!

Good write but there were trains before cars.

            • WriteBeLight

Yes and some of these freights look as old as the hills. But, they keep squawking and squeaking along! Thanks Goldfinch. I do appreciate the importance of them, however. 🙂

A fine write W. I can get a bus on a longer route. But by the time I get there, the bus on the shorter route, which leaves later, has caught up! doh!

Ha Ha. Great story orchidee! Thanks.

                Great poem WBL
                We in England have
                A similar problem
                And it can be soo
                Annoying....

I am dreading this afternoon when it is time to go home. Always causes such a long line of traffic. Got to go the other way but by the time I get close, it is too late 🙂 Thanks P.H.
