Sitting here in quiet solitude,
Listening to a steady rain,
A random thought occurs ...
What is inner peace?
How does one define it?
The realization quickly dawns
That it is quite simply;
Sitting here in quiet solitude,
Listening to a steady rain ...
Preferring one's own company
To that of any other's.

- Comment from author about the poem: This one came with the rain yesterday. After sleeping on it and some polishing, I think it might be presentable. You be the judge.

Your kind comment is very much appreciated, my friend.
Ah I'm the same - in fact I am not a team player - If something has to be done I like to get on with it on my own without others interfering and getting in the way. So this poem means something to me - love my own company.
Here's to introverts all! Thanks for your comment, Michael.
A feeling of peace brought on by gentle rain is something I too would choose to enjoy all alone - you verse the need for healing-solitude here so engagingly Louis.
Thank you, Fay. I value your input.
Good write L.
You are most kind, orchidee.
I completely agree, there is no better company than one's self
Yes, but even that can get tiresome at times. Thanks, 'Confused'.
Excellent. Love the surprise ending and the repeat of a phrase.
The repeated phrase is a favorite tool of mine. Thank you for your comment, Augustus.
Rain can cleanse the body but it also cleanses the mind , spirit and soul . What a beautiful feeling that would be .
Well spoken, swingline! Thank you.
Beautiful write and I heartily concur.
Much appreciated, Goldfinch!
I am an introvert and am almost always in solitude but I've come to find that I do enjoy the company of another at times. It's good to find inner peace though. When you can enjoy your own company it makes things easier. Nicely written
Thank you for this gracious comment, hippie.
Great work. Love it. Look forward to reading more by you.
Likewise, Krystal. Thanks
