Waiting A While

Fits tune: All for Jesus

('Holy Spirit, come confirm us')

Acts 1 v.4 - 8

********

Wait a while for Spirit's power

To meet needs of every hour

Jesus promised His disciples

And each one to whom He calls

For He taught that John did baptize

From waters folk did arise

Cleansed, forgiven, they repented

He them to new pastures led

But in few days hence they would be

Baptised with the Spirit, see

He would come, and in them reside

Banish human strife and pride

When disciples they did enquire

Lord, is kingdom  near or far?

Restoring of Israel's kingdom

When shall be the final sum?

The Lord He did reply, 'tis not

For you to know times, or what

The Father has put in His power

In His times it sure will flower

But for you, power you soon shall

Receive, and go forth and tell

In Jerusalem, Judea

And on to Samaria

On and on the bounds outstretching

Witnesses of me, your king

You shall be to uttermost ends

Of the earth, God's Spirit He sends

The Holy Spirit , such mystery , such power , such grace . Another invocative poem about the Bible I really look forward to .

Thanks S. I have to remember the Spirit is a 'He' (or including 'She'), i.e. a Person, and not just a 'force' or a 'power' or an 'it'.

          Good write.

Those chairs that the choir have seem to be a darn sight more comfortable than those we have in our Church!
