GOD KNOWS ME ~ AMEN ~ A 4 4 4 2 Blank Verse Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

GOD ~ You know me through & through ~ in & out

Every step I take ~ every plan I make

Every thought I have ~ every word I speak

I cannot hide away from you presence

If I ascend to heights of JOY ~ You're there

If I descend to depths of GLOOM ~ You're there

You care for me ~ wherever I may be !

You were even aware ~ my conception

You controlled my formation in the womb

I was fearfully ~ wonderfully made

You controlled my  DNA  ~ YOU MADE ME !

What and who I am is YOUR Gift to Me

What I make of myself ~ My Gift to YOU

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ God's Love ~ BRIAN

  • Comment from author about the poem: There are 150 Psalms in the BIBLE (Old Testament) ~ They are a wonderful revelation of God's relationship with Man. If you read (and meditate) on ONE per DAY you can more than read it twice every year. Psalm 119 is an amazing Psalm of 176 verses ~ each one of which extols the value of the Word of God. It is divided into 22 octets one for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each word in each octet ~ in the original Psalm ~ begins with the appropriate Hebrew Letter. It is the finest poem in the whole of the Psalms. It takes several days to read mark ~ learn and inwardly digest. Every Blessing ~ BRIAN XOX

A fine write B. See, I may know a lot of hymns and tunes, but there's still hundreds I don't know, if I look up online lists, etc!

    • BRIAN & ANGELA

ENGLISH LANGUAGE HYMNOLOGY is an infinite and dynamic subject (more are added each week) and (as you know) Charles Wesley wrote over 6000 (with a quill pen !) and every one is a GEM. Thanks for your hymns and hymn poems ~ they are a blessing. Now is the Hour is the Maori Hymn of Farewell and "Search Me O God" is set to this tune ~ BEAUTIFUL ~ thanks for caring ~ BRIAN

*Gets out quills*. You got any quills to use too?!

      • Michael Edwards

Great construction and well composed as always Brian.

        • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks MICHAEL ~ Blank Verse (as in Shakespeare) must have a strict metre ~ otherwise it is FREE VERSE ~ which is much less satisfying to read and recite. Thanks for your encouraging (as usual) comment ~ BRIAN

Truths abound in these well written lines - we are indeed able to gift God with what we make of ourselves to His glory - a fine blank verse Brian my friend.

          • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks FAY ~ pleased you liked both the Structure & Subject. I like to use the form of a Blank Verse Sonnet for my Sunday Poem ~ it give both dignity and flow. They are written to be recited of course ! Yours BRIAN

You'll get me going! I will work out the metre, then fit a tune name to it!
This, in the 4-line stanzas anyway, looks to be 10.10.10.10. Those stanzas would fit the tune 'Woodlands' (Tell out my soul).

            • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks STEVE will check the tune ~ it is indeed 10 10 10 10 (iambic pentameter) ~ BRIAN

I'm not into 'iambic wotsit'. heehee. Not to dismantle the poem, though it would need each stanza to be 4 lines.

                • BRIAN & ANGELA

Thanks STEVE ~ As you know a SONNET is limited to 14 lines ~ A Hymn written in QUATRAINS would have to have (of course) 12 ~ 16 or 20 lines etc and would not be a sonnet ! I could revamp it as a 7 ~ 7 sonnet / hymn. In Sonnets the last doublet often adds meaning to the other 10 lines ! BRIAN

And what we make of ourselves is our gift to the world, as well. Would you agree? Well written expression, Briansodes!

YES INDEED LOUIS ~ All Humans are gifted and non of us are perfect ~ we all have specific needs. I have worked with disabled teens and people kindly accepted them as work placement students if we agreed to visit them (and discuss their progress) once every week. It was expensive (but we convinced our Boss it was essential) many of them obtained employment which gave them self-esteem and independence. We operate in a WORLD of TIME & SENSE ~ and (as you say) ~ it is how we use our gift of life & work & love in the REAL WORLD that pleases GOD _ Our Creator ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN.
