Crescented Magic.

Fay Slimm.

Crescented Magic.

Hello shiny loop of post-shower Rainbow,
you of mosaic-powered striated halo,
and, so sages tell, a sign of faith.

You chaste secreter of much potted gold,
crescented magic of arc-perfection
your brilliant mixtures of shaded hues
break raindrops to states
of optic illusion that act as temptation.

Oh consummate sweep of bow-creation,
who can know when and what
day you appear so colourfully sweeping ?

Favour no seekers, oh Rainbow whom
by digging for myth will
selfishly follow ideas right to your end.

Make therefore no friends

of illicit searchers for treasure, those

who see you as meant lure

for wealth's  retrousséd embellishment.

Rainbow you cover no meant blessings
in pseudo-gilt with which
ingratiates have been long obsessed.

Sedate then vile lucre-lust with direst
sub-sequence on each
pain-augmented foot to way-lay theft.

Divert and deflect looters who with
ruinous know-how create
special deception before desecrating.

You as a wraith of kaleidoscope keep
away crooked schemers
by merely retaining pure iridescence.

Alive with mysterious rays

behave like a ghost, turn wispy pale,

disappear to invalidate trespass.

Rainbow hide what is always your own

from blind passers by with

greedy spade-eyes, stay unmolested.

Stretch out your tracery uncontrolled,
sky's vaulted bow keeping faith afloat
as a glorious sign, light-arrowed

to show divine assurance.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A little play on the idea that there is gold at the end of each rainbow.......... and the fools who have tried to make that a truth.

Fay, I read this poem and have to admit that it went way over my head. Your writing is incredible, I just don't understand it. My bad.

Oh Fred - My apologies for that - I regret that I did not put more explanation of the poem's message which is that seekers of gold from myths like digging at rainbow's end will bring nothing but heartache and failure as the ark is, according to scripture put there as divine assurance that the globe will never again be flooded. Do hope this helps with the deeper verses.

        Thank you Fay,
(by the way, my daughters name is "Faye-Sha")
We do have a lot of rainbows here in Hawaii, but I am still looking for the pot of gold! And as far as the assurance that the globe will never be flooded again.... some Islands in the Pacific Ocean are slowly going under with the raise in sea levels due to global warming.

I'd be happy with a pot of copper - and I'd be happy if I'd written this but sadly I didn't.

A great composition Fay! Saw the photograph on the 'Facebook' also today! - Raj

Your poem requires much of nature's gift. I tend to settle on simple appreciation ... but then that could be explained by a simple mind, couldn't it? Well done, again, Fay!

ingratiates have been long obsessed, I love this sentence, trying to flatter someone or making the efforts to keep them pleased. a good sentiment if its the right one at the time. this is a brilliant piece of work filled with thoughts provoking to make sure every line is understood with the array of fantastic words you have chosen. can't wait to read your next one because i hope its just as amazing as this one. well done, Fay Slimm.

There is always Gold a the end of the rainbow as it is Gods Covenant to us to remind us he is always with us. Good write.
