Day's Eye.
Stars like sparks splutter to bed
as birds catch fire.
Smut-red lips of sultry sun kiss
mouldering night
and in dawn's shimmering light
greet awakening sky.
Throat of thrush flintily strikes
other bird-minds,
inciting song while edge of day's
eye sets more alive
morning's explosions to electrify
small tongues in flight.
I stand dumbly admiring strident
trills of fervent dives
as winged searchers, self un-fed,
food must soon find
if newest nestlings are to survive.
Day's edge reminds
earliest risers of urgent business
as rays become daytime.

I think you really entered into this moment Fay, and it shows. I don't think hanging around the edges works - if you want to write it you really need to buy into the feeling of the tale.
Well done.
Warm thanks to you Frank for the read and comment.
This is wonderful Fay.
Just gorgeous....
My favourite is the
Swallows... the paths
They make in the sky
Are just wonderful and
Very hypnotic...

you deserve it x
A fine write Fay.
Beautiful poem Fay, the second stanza just blew me away. We have these incredible mornings when the sun rises over the Koolau Mountain range in the east painting the clouds from pink to dark red. The same spectacle sometimes repeats the same day when the sun disappears behind the Waianae mountains in the west.
Am delighted the read brought your comment on those incredible mornings over your side of the pond my friend - those shades is sunrise over there sound sensational - thanks a tonne - from Fay
Smitten with your language, as always.
"Smut-red lips of sultry sun kiss"
Get outta here!! Just strangling every atom of beauty and dipping the quill in its residue. A stunner.
Ooh - Heather your support gives me gusto for more strangulation of nature's raw beauty- - and loads of appreciation for the visit and read of this verbose offering to dawn. Warm thanks my friend
