I will not change a word

Tony36

You will have to change your poem they said

Some of your language in not appropriate

No I said

No

You do not tell me how to write

You do not tell me how to express myself

You do not tell me how to release the emotional flood within me

I write and still I get pulled down int the undertow

In the current of emotional thought

Yes some of my language is crude

But that is just the state my mind is in

You have no say

I have no say

The words flow from pure emotion

Unto the page

Every word is an out pouring of

Blood

Tears

Pain

Joy

An out pouring of pure emotional force

A true sign

That I am humans

Every word

No matter the wording

Is spilled from my heart and soul

I will not change a word of it

For to do so would be a betrayal

A betrayal to myself

A betrayal to who I am

A betrayal to human existence

Every word

The language

Rush out from the flood gates of the soul

I have no control over it

The flood cleanses

Heart

Mind

Soul

Body

I will change nothing

I will not deny the truth

That lies behind each world

The language may be crude for some

But

It is truth at it's essence

You will have to change your poem they said

Some of your language in not approprriate

No I said

No

  • Comment from author about the poem: Find this and many others at www.tanders-tma.blogspot.com. I was at a poetry slam one time, and one of the judges took a look at my poem and said I would have to change it because of some words I had used. I explained I was entering it in the adult catergoey. he told me that it did not matter I still had to change it. I told him thank you, grabbed my poem and walked away. When it was my turn on the mic, I raised the poem above my head and ripped it in two. Then started into the worlds written here

The words of Billy Joel come to mind. 'Don't go changing to try and please me. You never let me down before. Don't imagine you're too familiar, and i don't see you anymore'.
I wish i had been there sir!

As you evolve as a poet you may learn to express your deep felt emotion in a way that becomes more acceptable, and thereby reaches a wider audience. Never stop expressing deeply. Good poem, Tony!

You stood up for freedom of expression which in coming from heart and soul cannot be denied. This applies to all other writers and poets of course so - -- Bravo , I do admire you Tony.

So very true, you are right to do what you did, nobody should tell you what you write is not suitable, that is an individual opinion. As we all know some like our words and some do not but that is the way of the world. NOBODY should tell you/us that we should not allow others to hear our words.
