The Four Haikus of Edgar Schnapps - a dog

Erinna

Rain falls heavily

She is waiting by the door --

I hide in my bed.

Scents of late Autumn

Burrowing my nose in leaves --

I know happiness!

A splinter of sun

light pierces the leaves, and I

lie in reflection.

Ancient still woodlands

hide the foraging pheasants.

I dream of the hunt.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I thought it might be a good way to introduce children to writing Haiku by imagining what a dog would think and write about - being in the moment and nature.

    Bravo.

These Haiku are great, and I like the dog perspective rather than you talking about the dog. Would like to read more from you.
By the way, why no Haiku about his name?

    Why would they name me
    After an alcoholic drink
    I don't even like

      Hi Fred,
Thanks for your comments. I thought Schnapps was pretty good - he's a Schnauzer and he naps and schnapps ! 😂

      • FredPeyer

Erinna, in German, Schnapps (one or two p I don't remember) is a clear liquid alcohol made from fruits, potatoes, cherries, whatever. Usually 40% alcohol. Since a schnauzer is a german dog, I figured you named it after some German alcohol.
By the way, like your naps and schnapps response!
