Two Faces

seeker123

Divided, that’s what we are

Two faces one path we stray afar

Crossroads, that’s where we seem to pause

Considering what will make the greater cause.

Two ways to choose;

One that tugs the heart and soul,

The other made of hate and coal.

We are bound to take the one that burns the quickest

The one full of light,

For we only choose to use our sight, and leave the rest to night.

When we can’t see an end, marked upon the map,

We turn our backs against the tide, and journey to the gap.

The mirror it has shown, of lies and of deceit;

The reflection now is known;

For the light that we saw,

Was swallowed by nights black maw.

Now we lay adrift, upon a bed of lies;

For the mirror now only shows what we lost inside.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is a poem about the two faces within us one good one evil. It is about the struggle we have balancing the two sides. It shows that we are trapped into controling these forces instead of truly understanding them. We are always told that we are united, tht we are one community, that we are one country. But how can we be united as a country if we can't even balance our two faces within us. Everything has two sides, two meanings, and without the other side we could not be a balanced human being.

    I had a spiritual teacher who would often say; "The dark and the light, one and the same", referring to the opposite ends of the same spectrum we explore and experience as humans. As you say in your comments, "without the other side we could not be a balanced human being". Fine poem, Seeker!

    Good write, we always have the choices in our live and do we always take the right path, the good path; possibly not but we will always be left with the question in our lives "What if I had taken the other path?"
