Ewig.

Goldfinch60

"What is life to me without thee?"
Those words sail from her soul,
From her soul and into my heart.
This Lady of Song, taken from us,
Taken from us in her prime.
Kathleen's wonderful voice is still there,
Still there sailing through the ether,
Sailing forever.
"Ewig, - Ewig, - Ewig"

  • Comment from author about the poem: Kathleen Ferrier was an English Contralto born in April 1912 and died in October 1953. She is my favourite singer of all time of all genres. "Ewig, Ewig, Ewig" are the last three words of Mahler's 'Das Lied von der Erde' meaning 'Forever' and I believe these words will sail the ether for eternity.

A fine write and song G/F. Am I your worst singer of all time? Remember me singing in 1066? Meowwwoo!

    • orchidee

That woof has scared off my cat-erwauling singing - bet you're glad!

A very nice tribute to your favorite singer. Do you think our poems will also stay around "fuer ewig"?

        • Goldfinch60

          Thank you Fred.
Our poems will stay around, my elder Granddaughter wants my poems when I am no longer on this earth.

My wife keeps telling me that it does not matter whether or not my writing is good or bad and that I should put the poems into a self-published book as a gift to my grand-children. Looks like we are in the same boat here!

She was and is the greatest CONTRALTO the world has ever seen.
