To die is not a bad thing
It will happen to all of us
Eventually
Or maybe today
We don’t want to
Or maybe cannot
Think about death
Just around the corner
There still is
So much to do
So much to live for
So much to accomplish
Imminent death does not
Dwell in our mind
It is much more comforting
To see it far away
But maybe we should
Live our lives
As if death was
Just around the corner

That I do sir, every corner is then a milestone.
Well written
Thank you Dan, these corners are milestones, and may you pile them up forever and ever. BTW, don't call me sir, I am old enough as it is!
No worries son 😉 think I ment it more as great orders. Maybe captain would of been more you, so eye eye. I hope they pile up too, maybe thats what help me to move forward past a fearful one today, I think I may even spoken some of this prospective in the interview.
A second thank you
I would like to add that it felt like we're singing from the same sheet, as this was my purpose of writing "every word I see and hear"
Would be honoured if you have me your take on it.
Thank you i needed this message.
Des, thank you for reading it. I am glad if it can help you, even if it is only a tiny little bit. Am looking forward to read more from you!
Just around the corner, for sure, Fred.
Live like it's your last, and keep doing that every new day.
Thanks Frank,
I wrote a poem a while back about how people always say "this is the first day of the rest of your life" and I countered by saying that this is the last day of my life, followed by another last day, etc. etc., until I run out of days.
Yup. That works too, Fred.
I do like this - for me though I've so much to live for and so much I still want to do that death is something I never dwell on - if it comes it comes but in the meantime I live for today and for the future.
Should have added that I do have everything in place: will, Powers of Attorney, funeral wishes, and I can now forget about all that and concentrate on living.
Thanks Michael, even at 69 I don't dwell on death. I know that it is in my future. How far ahead, I have no idea and don't want to know. I am glad you got all your paperwork done, still have to do some of mine.
My deeper meaning with this poem was that we all should do something worthwhile with our lives. It can be writing, or making life absolutely beautiful for a loved one, or whatever else.
With you all the way on that Fred (I'm 73) - it's art and poetry, holidays and day trips, and some (probably not enough) work in the community that keeps my life on track - and, I should add, a wonderful wife for which I am truly blessed.
Welcome to the club Michael, or since I am younger, maybe it is the other way round and I am joining your club. I also have a wonderful wife of 40 years, my first and only one! And Michael, I want to read some of your poetry 30 years from now!!!! 🙂
I only ever think of death when it's necessary. fuck death whilst you're alive dude so get on with it and keep writing poetry but include life next time. it's a really important factor to understand because you know how short a time we have on this planet and it ain't a great deal. death is easy, it's the living part that becomes the eciting part so live it.
Thanks Kevin, not sure anymore, but I think it was Woody Allen who said: I am not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it comes. (Or something like that).
I know it well my friend x
I swear on my hair you took my current life and stuck it in a poem. Amazing. Take each day as it comes. Good or bad. Great write my friend 😊
And lovely hair it is, at least the little bit showing from below your ever present hat! And yes, take it one day at a time, and before you know it you will be a hundred years old and wonder what the heck happened.
What are those words in the ceremony 'in the midst of life we are in death'. You are so right here
Thanks b-e, Media vita in morte sumus, you hit the nail on the head.
Very true give the day the best it or you have to offer.
Yes, Goldfinch, and we should be doing it every day. It's a tall order, and unfortunately we don't always succeed.
WE can but try.
Indeed it may be, so may we all spend our lives fully lived! Your fine poem is a good reminder, Fred.
Thanks Louis, we certainly may!
Great write
Thanks Tony, just trying to measure up to you! 🙂
Welcome. No need to measure up, I stand quite short
I'm ready to die but still have a lot to live. I truly believe that death is just when you come to an intersection in life where from there after you need to take another road.
Thank you Malu. You still have a lot of life in you, a lot to live for, therefore you are NOT ready to die. You know, I think most of us accept that we have to die, ready or not. But we don't have to think of it all the time, all we have to do is live and be as good as we can.
In some ways being aware of the possibility makes everything a little sweeter. Certainly makes one grip a little tighter, forgive a little easier, and jump out of comfort zones. Death nips at all of our heels, regardless of age. It also gives one pause to practice gratefulness.
You are so right Heather, and the last poem you published also has to do with death and how it affects the ones left behind.
But in the end, we should not think of death too much, just live our lives as best we can.
