So sad, what the young lad said to me;
“I have never read a book.”
How could I explain to him the pleasure,
That can be found in reading,
Stories that can thrill; can make you laugh;
Can make you cry.
Books to me have always been there,
The total range of emotions can be felt;
Love, anger, hate, sadness, happiness.
Not to know these feelings that are given
By the skill and imagination of authors,
Is alien to me.
Listening and looking can produce emotion,
But reading allows you to use, your own imagination,
To create those characters, brought to life on the page.
To imagine the look of the villains and heroes is something
So personal, that if recreated on screen,
Mostly lets you down.

I know what you mean. when I'm reading a good book I can go 12 hours on top of 12 hours. that makes 24 hours.
Lost in the mind of the author can be wonderful.
Super poem - so true - and so it is with poetry - I do like poetry in which the reader can paint a picture in his mind - that makes it magical.
Thanks Michael, so kind.
Well said Goldfinch, that is exactly why I prefer books to movies!
Thanks Fred, with books the imagination is free to roam.
Books over movies any day. I kind of have a romance with the books themselves. I love the scent of paper, the weight of it in my hand, crisp pages, worn pages...I hope to never see them become antiques. I enjoyed this.
Some of the books I have may well be antiques. It is very hard to get rid of any books. Thank you Heather.
A truth so well stated, and so lost on the current generation ... sad. Reading books is down, but I cannot believe it is going away in favor of the draw of interacting with the new devices. Thanks for posting this one, Goldie.
Thanks Louis, much appreciated.
Books are like a portal to a world in someone else's mind for you to take a look into. Once you start reading, you can't stop!
Very true, getting lost in a book is magical.

Love this......
You have given me
A fantastic idea for
A poem.....
Something I have forgotten
My mind has unfortunately
Deleted some earlier memories
But your wonderful poem
Reminded me of some....
Thank you so much...
Thank you PH, I look forward to reading your memories.
