Hope is a four letter word
Expectation derived from dreams
With no future
No reality
Expecting the best
Fearing the worst
Hope
Seeing the world through
Rose colored glasses
Always waiting
Always expecting
And slowly, irrevocably,
Hope retreats to a place
We cannot reach
Hope
Full of promise
Empty of fact
Carrying us to lofty heights
Only to abandon us
Again and again
Until one day
There is no Hope

Great to see you back BUT there's always hope - without it what is the point of anything - anyway still liked the poem - great write
Thank you Michael, you are right of course, there IS always hope when there is nothing else. What went through my mind is that if you are hoping for something in particular, and it just does not happen, one has to be realistic and eventually you just give it up. Does not mean though that there can still be hope for something else. Ahh, I am not a philosopher, I just write what is in my head.
Good write. Hope is always there as without it existence would be non existent.
Thank you goldfinch! See my answer to Michael.
A fine write F. yet I too think there is always hope, that is not just wishful thinking.
This reminds me of: If one never expects any good to happen, one won't be disappointed if all works out badly! Yet that seems pessimistic.
Thank you orchidee, yes, it seems pessimistic. But sometimes it seems to be the best way to handle something.
One would hope that there is always hope, hopefully. Welcome back, Fred. Hope you enjoyed your time away, but can appreciate missing this forum. Kudos on the poetic tribute to hope!
Thanks Louis! Like your first sentence in this comment!!!
I hoped you would.
Glad you returned and we got the opportunity to read your poem. I hope you never stop hoping 🙂
Thanks WBL, don't worry, what I write and what I do is not always the same thing!

Fine writing Fred. Nice to see you back. Hope you are feeling good.
The human spirit is so resilient that hope finds its own way in.
