In this world of contradictions,
Many things aren't what they seem.
Suppose this life is but an illusion,
Nothing more than a waking dream?
We seem to be two different sorts,
But imagine if it were true ...
That I am you disguised as me,
And you are me disguised as you?

Beautiful poem.
Thank you, Lizzy.
We are all very similar in many ways. Good poem!
Appreciate the comment, WBL. Thanks.
Good write, do we know who we are, we all put on different masks depending on the situation.
And what if, behind those masks, we all were one? Thanks for reading and commenting, Goldie.
A fine write Louis.
Thank you so much, orchidee!
We all overlap in many respects - -love the wit in your imaginings Louis.
Indeed we do, Fay, for which I am pleased and honored. Glad you appreciated it!
A very apt title to a very intriguing poem! Maybe the world would be a better place if your last stanza would be true.
There are those of us who strongly suspect that it is ... that in fact we all are one, just wearing different faces/disguises. Interesting concept! Thanks for your thoughts, Fred.
The masks are the same - the difference lies behind them - I am now beginning to wonder what I am talking about - heigh ho - love the poem nevertheless.
What if the masks are the only difference ... what lies behind them is the same? What if neither is true? We could go on forever chasing our tails, I suppose. Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Michael!
Chasing tails behind a mask - now there's a thought - I think!
Freaky Friday? Lovely poem. Nice reading.
Happy Friday to you, MB! Thanks for commenting.
So simple but so clever
I concur, pp. Clever needn't be complicated, does it. Thanks for your reply!
