THE CYCLE REPLAYED

Louis Gibbs

The instrument of our annihilation

Emerged from repose in 1945,

Less than two thousand years

From the hope of our salvation.

And so, once again we trace

The path of prior civilizations,

From the brink of realization

To the finality of extinction.

  • Comment from author about the poem: As the world appears to be hurtling toward the brink of a nuclear holocaust, I thought I'd offer a poem or two along those lines. Here is the first. Cheers!

Thank you Louis for this very well written poem! With Guam being mentioned as a possible target, and us in Hawaii not living that far away and potentially being a target also, your poem did hit a nerve! And living on a little island, there is no place to hide or run to!

I've had a couple of visits to Hawaii and each time felt the restriction you allude to. Made me uncomfortable. I hesitated in sharing this poem from the standpoint of adding to the paranoia, but it is what it is whether we want to acknowledge it or not. I don't believe it is imminent, but it does appear to be inevitable. Thanks for your comment, Fred.
