Tinnitus

FredPeyer

Never

Ever

Silence

Noise

A constant

Companion

At times

Aggravatingly

Irritating

At times

Barely

Endurable

Nevertheless

A part

Of me

As such

To be

Accepted

Maybe

Even

Treasured

A melody

Nobody else

Can hear

The voices inside our heads. This is nice. I don't know too much about the disorder, but I understand it. Nicely done.

    • FredPeyer

Thank you Nicholas. It is not the same for everybody who has it. In my case it is usually a very high pitched constant sound. Since it is generated somehow inside the head, you can still hear normal. It is just annoying.

      • Nicholas Browning

Is that the same ringing you hear when it's silent?

        • FredPeyer

The ringing is there inside, whether or not it is silent outside. When it is silent outside, one notices the ringing more. Like b-e said, it can be barely noticeable, or it can sound like a turbine!

          • Nicholas Browning

Well then. That sounds, as you stated, very irritable. I've dealt with it once before, because I dropped a giant slab of steel onto another one. Rang for about an hour, but all the time? That's got to be unpleasant Fred.

          • burning-embers

Yep, sometimes benign you dont notice it, other times like a massive turbine. Excellent writing

            • FredPeyer

              Exactly!!! Thanks, b-e!

A great write about a lousy condition - nice one Fred

              • FredPeyer

Thanks so much Michael! Yeah, it is kinda lousy. But after so many years I got used to it (at least most of the time). Right now it sounds like a bunch of crickets going full out.

              • orchidee

It's not really voices in the head, is it? That's something else. Thankfully I don't have this myself. But know what you mean, when we 'hear sounds' in silent places.

                • FredPeyer

No orchidee, it is NOT voices in the head. I am quite normal, thank you very much! check it out on the internet. Has something to do with the inner ear, the brain, whatever! Thank you for reading and commenting, I do appreciate it.

Very strong write, it is an awful problem for many. One of my friends has it and he gets so angry about it sometimes.

                  • FredPeyer

Thank you so much Goldfinch! I do not get angry, but I do get irritated sometimes. Most of the time I just accept it. There is no cure and there is nothing I can do, so I might as well get along with it.

A good poem, Fred, describing a cruel affliction. My sympathy! My hearing affliction is quite different ... called 'sensory overload', a symptom of Asperger's syndrome. Loud or sharp noises cause pain. We just learn to live with them, as you have done quite well, apparently. I appreciated your fine poem.

                    • FredPeyer

Thank you so much for your comment, Louis.
I am grateful to have only Tinnitus, while annoying sometimes, at least it is not serious. So sorry to hear about your affliction! Can anything be done about it? (Except for learning to live with it)

                      • Louis Gibbs

I'm afraid not. I have learned to avoid noisy crowds, loud restaurants, and any other sources of noise that might be above my threshold of tolerance. Thanks for your concern, Fred. Sorry you have to deal with your problem!

Ihhh! I can join the club. I had it bad but now is a little better. It gets better if I exercise my neck and jogging helps too. You described it so well. Thanks for sharing.

                        • FredPeyer

Thank you dear Malu! I will try the neck exercises. Instead of jogging, I use a stationary bicycle and a rowing machine. And I lift weights. Didn't notice if it went away, primarily because when I work out I concentrate on the workout, and don't notice it. Will let you know if it works!!! 🙂

                          • malubotelho

I notice an improvement, but not really during exercising but if I exercise regularly I feel a lot better. I think it has to do with a tension on my neck because if I\'m more relaxed it is a lot better. The doctors said it is related with hearing loss but I had a hearing test and could hear 97 % so I don\'t believe for me is a hearing loss problem. My job sacrifices my neck a lot and I have a problem there. I had a MIR taken and have no tumor so it is like we need to cope with it. Exercise and meditation and no alcohol helps a lot.

I hadn't heard of it until now, but this poem expressed incredibly about your acceptance!

                            • FredPeyer

Thank you poetboy! It seems that quite a lot of people have it, but for many it is not constant, it comes and goes.

                            • myself and me

Hei, you describe the symptom better than the doctors, the doctors can't beat you on writing poems.

Mine is not constant, only bother me occasionally.

                              • FredPeyer

Thank you mam, glad you don't have it constantly. With me it is the other way around. I occasionally don't have it. 🙂

                                • myself and me

I guess I received those ring occasionally escaped from you.
