Hard Day

FredPeyer

I need a drink

He said

Had a hard day

He said

As if that drink

Would soften the day

I need another drink

He said

The day was really hard

He said

As if that drink

Would let him forget

I should stop drinking

He said

But give me one more

He said

As if that drink

Would set him free

Maybe one more

He said

Then I’m done

He said

But didn’t believe it

There was always one more

Is never enough that's why I don't drink (much).
    Really like this one!

    • FredPeyer

Thank you PD, you are so right. Once you start it is so easy to keep on going.

    • Nicholas Browning

The truth is told. Well done.

      • FredPeyer

Ah Nicholas, thank you so much for reading!

      • Fay Slimm.

Problems are always there at the bottom of any bottle - - well expressed in this needed reminder Fred.

        • FredPeyer

Thank you Fay, somebody once told me that one can see the future looking into an empty bottle. 🙂

Stopped drinking wine with every meal about six weeks ago and its been hard but at least I've now lost 7 lbs in weight and gained in the pocket so all is not bad- and nor is this great write.

          • FredPeyer

Thanks Michael, good for you. I had red wine with my evening meal since my late teen years and you are right, it is hard not to have that glass. What we are doing now is not to drink from Monday to Thursday, and then have some wine with the meal on Fri/Sat/Sun. Works good.

I lost a sweet younger brother to drink, and saw what it did to his family. A sad affliction it is.
I appreciated your good poem, Fred!

            • FredPeyer

Thank you Louis, I am so sorry to hear that. As I said above to Martina, alcohol is a drug like any other and alcoholism as a drug dependency that should be treated. Unfortunately, we all make excuses all the time.

            • Goldfinch60

Good write Fred and so true in many cases, although I enjoy good wine I do not drink it that much.

              • FredPeyer

Thanks Goldfinch. Yes, we try to do the same thing, not drink too much. But sometimes after a "hard" day, it is so nice to just relax with that glass of red wine (or two....)

Nice write Fred. I've noticed your absence here. Busy is good though.

                • FredPeyer

Thanks Malu, and wow, you actually notice the absence? My wife owns a small bakery and we had a three-day event called "Made in Hawaii" where we had a booth. It is held annually at the main exhibition hall in Honolulu and is visited by over 50,000 people. So we were baking like there is no tomorrow! And I was "volunteered" by my wife to man the booth.

This is great. I can smell the pastrys. Oh, I'm not dead for food yet. I like to know that you and your wife work together making delicious food. I bet you put smile on many faces. Food is love.

The demon drink. A good warning write.

                    • FredPeyer

Thank you b-e, you can say that again. And it is a demon that sneaks up on you so easily.

                    • myself and me

The drink gives them a moment relief from their hard life, while make their life just harder. I have pity for them, but too sad, I do not have a solution for them.
May I have a drink please? Soft beverage.
                      Well done, indeed.

                      • FredPeyer

Thank you mam, it really is a big problem for much too many people. You feel great while drinking, and terrible the next morning, so to feel great again you go for another one. Terrible ups and downs.

                      • docstorm

Drink! Such a destroyer of many things.

                        Thanks for sharing your write.

                        • FredPeyer

Thank you so much docstorm! You are so right, it does destroy a lot, including relationships, careers, etc.

I'll raise a glass to the poem Fred 🙂

Thank you WBL, just make sure it doesn't turn into two or three! 🙂

                            • WriteBeLight

                              Will do 🙂

                            • a__pott

Not only a good message, but a true one! Very reflective or eye opening for some I'm sure!

                              • FredPeyer

Thanks a-pott, some people are alcoholics, but don't want to admit it.
