Insignificance.

Goldfinch60

I reach the top of the hill and stop,

Bringing my life to rest.

I look down at the vastness of nature

Stretching to my life’s horizon.

I look up at the infinite universe

Stretching towards my eternity.

The feeling comes to my mind,

That in all this eternal space around me,

Am I so insignificant?

Oohh no - very significant, of great value, can't do without you, etc, etc. Now one reason there is eternal space is so there's enough room to escape from me singing! You can hear me at least as far as Mars. heehee.

Perspective is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Allows you to see what you need to see.

    • Goldfinch60

      Very true Frank, thank you.

Enjoyed reading this. I love walking somewhere that gives you such a view - it dies remind you how big the world is - but if it's only you there I get an overwhelming sense of cleanliness and peace. Sorry rambling on! As for being significant we are all that to someone or some place!

      • Goldfinch60

Thank you sue, yes significance can be special to some

We are all important stitches in life's tapestry - the value drops for each one missing - or so the Auctioneers tell me. Good write Andy.

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael, those auctioneers are extremely picky.

I think not Goldfinch, the universe is inspired by you. ; )

          • Goldfinch60

So kind, all I or any of us can do is try to help others.

          • FredPeyer

I agree with sue, Kat, and Michael.
While we are totally insignificant when compared to the Universe, we are very significant to the people who love us.
            Love your poem!

Beautiful music as the words are being read - - - none of us who are gifted with life are insignificant my friend -and this verse is a lovely reminder of that divine blessing.

              • Goldfinch60

Very true Fay, the music is by Max Richter, a composer that I discovered a few months ago. As I write this I am listening to his music - so calming,

Considering that the "vastness of nature" and the "infinite universe" are mere props on the stage that we, as aspects of Creator, have created upon which to act out our roles ... I'd say it was the other way around.
A fine, thought provoking poem, Goldie!

                • Goldfinch60

                  Thank you Louis, most kind.

Good to guestion our mortality. such vastness often makes me seem insignificant also ....good poem

Oh! How I like your writing. So simple and full of truth. It seems to me that you are a wise man full of autonomy. Thanks for sharing.

                  • Goldfinch60

I am so grateful for your thoughts malubotelho, I don't see my self as wise maybe my age has given me experience.

                    • malubotelho

                      Time can give us experience.

Oh no.... you're one of gods chosen sir and blessed with a voice we need to hear along with countless other talents of which we know little or nothing. Of all the wonderous things there are in creation, if we were to start taking things away we would lessen it. My belief is that we are all here to find our path thru thhis existence and into the next. Yes you are significant.

                      • Goldfinch60

Thank you b=e I agree that we are here to find our chosen path, mine has been a long path mainly filled with joy and wonder.

"I reach the top of the hill and stop"
                        How significant is this.
All the eternal space around you has been there the same all the time, but you climb all the way from the bottom to the top, kept them beneath your feet.
                        Significant writing.

PS: I have Acrophobia, when I read your poem, I had to sit back and hold my chair arm tight. 🙂

I hope you didn't damage the arm of the chair.

                          • myself and me

The chair's arm is fine, mine not.

Makes you wonder surrounded by such beauty. I'm sure none of us are insignificant though. Lovely writing.
