Peace Provision

Tune: Serenity

('Immortal love, for ever full')

Ephesians 2 v.12-17

**********

At one time we from Christ far off

We did deride and scoff

Were aliens from [the] commonwealth

Of Israel, in need of health

Strangers too from the covenant

Of promises us sent

Having no hope, and God without

Him in the world, no doubt

But now in Christ, we sometimes far

From Him, our morning-star

Now made nigh by Christ's blood, 'tis shed

With power to raise the dead

For He our peace, has made both one

He the Father's own Son

Peace between man and God, the Way

He leads to endless day

He has broken middle wall down

No longer wrath or frown

Need we experience, for He

Has come to set us free

In His flesh, he took enmity

That separated us, see

Of laws and rules, and strife to be

He took it all for me

And to God and man reconcile

It was the plan, the style

That He make us one through His cross

His body bore the loss

The loss that we could not amend

Nor by good deeds defend

But Christ did save, took enmity

That peace with God may be

He came and preached to those afar

Gentiles, with no debar

Peace to them, and to the Jews near

All to the Saviour dear

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 metre (Common Metre = CM). Sneaked in some extra syllables here and there. ooh. Hope it does not make the tune jarring. If you are not a Jew, you are a Gentile. You are one or the other!

Orch, I'm enjoying reading your beautiful words about Christ and how he cleaned us. Our divine side is all it is worth from us. The rest we just use and leave behind. With respect and honor of course.
