THOUGHTS ON MADNESS

Louis Gibbs

"Madness" is simply the degree

To which one's personal reality

Deviates from 'consensus reality' ...

Nothing more.

Insane asylums are filled with

Visionaries and Prophets, while

Leaders claiming divine credentials

Are the ones most surely insane.

Determining one as being mad

Might best be left up to the

Particular individual in question ...

Don't you think, or am I nuts?

Not sure if it's the same thing but I'm often referred to as eccentric by the family - no of course you're not nuts - just a good poet and this is a good 'un to prove it.

            • Louis Gibbs

When others refer to as 'eccentric', at least they are being kind ... not having us committed for instance. Yeah, we poets are all a little nuts. Appreciate your kind comment, Michael!

            • Fay Slimm.

Madness has been the word used to discredit the wisest of thinkers in every age - - good points raised here in this "rant" Louis.

              • Louis Gibbs

So true, so very true, Fay! Thank you for your response!

I was born a nut, live as a nut, and will die as a nut. And.... believe it or not....am proud of it!

                • Louis Gibbs

Cheers to us proud nuts everywhere! Thanks, Fred.

I thought before reading your poem that we were a tree of poets but now I'm thinking 💭 that we are more like a can full of nuts 🥜
De poeta e de louco, todos nós temos um pouco.
Of poet and crazy we all have a bit.
If translated does not make much sense.

                  • Louis Gibbs

Well thank you for the Interesting translation anyhow. \'A can of nuts\' ... I like that analogy, Malu! Thank you for an intriguing response, and for making it a favorite!

                    "Madness" is simply the degree

Too bad, there is no ruler or measure cup for it, otherwise, madness could be quantified.
                    Very good point.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. m&m!

I read Genius first. Together with this, your glorious madness has surely taken root. A philosophical treasure.

                      • Louis Gibbs

"Glorious madness", a true compliment, indeed! Your generous comment is greatly appreciated, Seek.
